Follow These 5 Steps For Easy Bathroom Door Replacement

Handyman Services-34

A door replacement does not have to be a complicated project. If you are looking for a simple, do-it-yourself project that is easy and doesn’t take a lot of time, then an interior door replacement is a good place to start.

It is not uncommon to go through home removal and find out the new place you have just moved in needs some improvement. However, such projects are not always related to something bad. Often you engage in such work to improve the place and make it more to your liking. If it’s your current home you are going to work in, it could be because you want to make the most out of it and sell it before relocation actually takes place. No carpenter required for your next door installation with these 5 easy to follow steps!

1. Prepare Yourself

Before you get on with your house removal tasks, you have to measure the height and width of the door. Verify if it is a right or left handed door. Do this by keeping your back to the hinges and seeing which direction it swings open. Select a similar door at your local hardware store. There is no need for a removal van, as most doors fit in a regular car. Look for the same width and height that also matches the “hand” swing direction. This type of door will not come with a door knob or hinges, but you can add that in the next step.

2. Prime and Paint

Before replacing, you will need to prime and paint the door. If you like the hardware from your previous door, you can transfer the hinges and door knob to your new one. Otherwise, you will need to select new hardware for your new door. The door knob hole should already be cut.

3. Remove the Old Door

Stand on the hinge side and remove the pin from the hinges. Make sure to start from the bottom and work your way up for an easier removal. Tap out a pin with a hammer, in case its removal is proving a challenge. If you do not have a hammer at hand, you can use a screwdriver.

4. Add the hinges

Now that your new door is prime and painted, you can add the door knob and the hinges that you have chosen for the door. When the hinges are screwed on, you are ready for installation.

5. Hang the Door

You might want to ask a buddy to help set the pins in the hinges. Once done, test the door to ensure it opens in the direction you want smoothly.
